Question of the Day ~ Gas

How can a person who is actually a pretty light sleeper sleep through the passing of two rounds of extremely loud gas?  I can understand if the gas was of the quiet, hissing nature.  Similar to air escaping slowly from a balloon.  But this gas was violent!  A combination of machine gun fire and the backfiring of an engine.  Two distinct rounds of anal artillery, each lasting several seconds.

Wouldn't such sounds wake you up?  Or at least cause you to reposition your body in the bed?  And people think couples who sleep in separate bedrooms are missing out.  Ummm, no, they are not.

10 Things

Today I am going to list 10 things that make me unique, quirky, obnoxious, twisted, bizarre, you get the idea. I hope ya'all play along because it'll be fun - trust me!

1) I've never had a cup of coffee.
2) I am right handed, but crochet and play pool left handed.
3) I dislike small dogs...big time.
4) When being treated for any medical/dental condition, I'm always the one with the complicated or rarely seen case.
5) I hate catsup, or however you choose to spell it.
6) I'm a food purist. Chocolate cake is fine being chocolate cake. No need to add anything to it. That's what the Food Network is for.
7) I wanted so badly to have a June Cleaver personality. It didn't happen for me.
8) Maureen McCormick (AKA Marcia Brady) gave the eulogy at my step-mother's funeral. And when they opened the vault to put her ashes next to my father's ashes, I practically started wailing. It was Maureen who hugged and comforted me.
9) The sound of anyone cutting their toe or fingernails gives me the willies.
10) The use of words like DREAM, SOAR, HOPE, BELIEVE in scrapbooking or altered art items just gags me. This ties into item #7. They are wonderful words, just way overused in my opinion.

Judge Judy

Do you like Judge Judy? I like Judge Judy. She is intelligent, funny, and overflowing with common sense. Her father was a dentist, and so was mine.

~ Question of the Day ~

I must be slipping, because I haven't posted an "ewwww" question lately.

Would you rather:

Spend the day doing pedicures at a men's prison
or
Spend the day doing bikini waxes at a women's prison?

Lots of things to consider with this one. I think I'd have to choose the pedicures.

Question of the Day ~ The Information Age

Okay, I admit to putting my head in the sand when it comes to current events. I don't want to be anywhere near a television if it's tuned to the local news. There is always some horrific story of a person who had 30 sick dogs and couldn't feed them, let alone provide adequate medical care. The animal and children stories lay me out. I'm a wimp.

Since I spend so much time online, it's impossible not to notice the headlines. Lately the headlines are scarier than anything Stephen King ever dreamt up. I read enough to keep myself semi-informed, but not enough to be immersed in the news of the day. It's so easy to become paralyzed by all the doom and gloom which surrounds us.

How much reality do you put on your plate each day?

Question of the Day * Parenting

Since there are no perfect people, it follows there are no perfect parent(s) either. I think we all try to pass along to our kids the good things our parents gave to us. I also think we try to put an end to certain other generational things that aren't so positive.

For me, I was determined not to criticize my son the way my father criticized me. I remember a conversation I had with his 4th grade teacher (she had also been his 3rd grade teacher). I was explaining my childhood and my goal of instilling in my son a healthy self-esteem. She told me, "Oh you don't have to worry about that. You have succeeded." It was said with just enough sarcasm to convey the feeling she thought I had 0verdone it. That's okay - better to err on the side of too much instead of not enough.

What do you do differently than your parents did? What one thing were/are you determined to change to make a better life for your child or children?

* Question of the Day *

Do you have a favorite I Love Lucy episode?

Here is mine, and tell me if you remember it. When Ricky and Lucy and Ethel and Fred are driving to California, and find themselves at this broken down motel. The owner put misleading signs on the highway to "trap" weary travelers.

They are served rubber sandwiches in the coffee shop, and then check into the only available cabin. It's the only one available, because it's the only one they have. Both couples go about their nighttime routine and my favorite scene is Ethel tucking Fred into bed. It had a huge divet in the middle. And then....the train comes through! It was a classic.

** Little Nuggets of Trivia **

I think we all possess knowledge that isn't widely known, or thought about, or cared about. Nonetheless we know things and when we tell other people these things, the other people say "hmmm, I did not know that." I enjoy knowing odd things. It's one of the few times I get to hear my husband say "you're right."

My nugget today concerns dentists, and why some are DDS's while others are DMD's. Both mean exactly the same thing. DDS is doctor of dental surgery and DMD is doctor of medical dentistry. Which three letters the dentist receives is totally dependent on the college he or she attends, and how they choose to do it.

Would you share a little nugget of trivia with me? Sounded a bit like Mr. Rogers there, didn't I?

Baths, or Showers?

Okay, I'm really pressing here, for a blog post subject. Do you take a bath, or a shower, or both? Hey, at least I didn't ask "tampons or pads?"

I shower. If I had a larger tub I might take the occasional hot bath with bubbles and candlelight. Our tub is not very big, and I kinda am - so it's not a great combination.

C'mon Get Happy * Question

I'm a huge Partridge Family fan.

My question today is: What are the last three things that made you happy? They can be anything at all. Here are mine.

Yesterday the dogs and I did a few errands. I stopped at my favorite thrift store and wandered around for about 20 minutes. I spent $5.88 and found several pieces of "treasure."

Two people told me how beautiful my dogs were.

My son called from the birthday sleepover he was attending, to ask if he could play a rated M video game. Dad's rule is nothing rated M. Son knows this, but figures it's worth a shot to ask every now and then. Dad said no. It was a very short phone call. It made me happy that he called because he could have gone ahead and played the game. We would have never known. And maybe he did play it anyway, but I rather doubt it. He's down with the fact that parents can't be everywhere, but God can.

Question of the "Back In" The Day ~

What things do you remember from "back in the day?"

~ I remember when "back in the day" wasn't a commonly used expression.
~ I remember seeing the occasional milk man on his route.
~ I remember when you played outside all summer, unless it was just too hot, then you played board games, inside.
~ I remember when I wasn't wished "a happy period, always."
~ I remember when everyone drank tap water, except for medical offices, where they had Sparkletts.
~ I remember when See's Candy cost $4.30 a pound.
~ I remember watching TV, without cable. Back then you could turn on the set and not have to see commercials for Viagra and Monistat.

I remember not being old enough to wish for the way things used to be, back in the day.

Question of the Day

Do you brave the crowds and shop the day after Thanksgiving? If you do, are you one who gets up at zero dark thirty to be one of the first in line?

Personally I have never shopped on Black Friday. I have always disliked crowds so that has been enough to keep me away. I am usually going to bed about the time the sales begin, so I guess if I went with someone else, who was well rested, I could function. Maybe some day....

Question of the Day

Warning: this question is gross, icky, juvenile, sick...and gives you a brief glimpse into my twisted little mind. However, in my defense, I did not write this - I just enjoy passing it along. It's one of those "would you rather" questions. I heard Carla ask it EONS ago during an episode of Cheers.

Okay, ready? Here we go:

Would you rather
Lose your balance in a sewage treatment facility, or
Eat food recovered from an autopsy?

I asked it, so I gotta answer it - I bet I'll be the only one who does. I would rather take a swim, than take a chew. There, I said it.

Question of the Day: Inside the Lines

So often what we set out to create is far different from what we end up creating. This ATC is called Inside the Lines. What is she saying to you?

Question of the Day: Baby Names

The Lord blessed me with one son (that I know of). It's always fun to add the "that I know of" and watch a person's facial expression. Even before conception, I had a girl's name picked out: Dorian Rose Louise. Dorian being my mother's first name, Rose being my former husband's mother's first name, and Louise being my middle name. Yet I hoped and prayed I would give birth to a son.

I know one shouldn't make special requests, but I am a weenie and knew that a boy would be easier. Especially if I had a daughter who was anything like me. Snakes and spiders and lizards and frogs are no big deal. But the thought of hormonal battles with another female scared the you know what out of me. I also prayed my child would inherit my nose and not his/her father's nose. Simply because his/her life would be easier that way.

We could not agree on a boy's name until well into the pregnancy. I had two ultrasounds, one at the usual time and one about an hour before an emergency C-Section. Both times my little guy was shy and wasn't going to reveal anything to the camera. So we did it the old fashioned way, back before ultrasounds and amnio. We were surprised by Jacob Thomas Heisner Salisbury. The Jacob and the Thomas being chosen by my mother, and Heisner being my maiden name. My father was quick to point out his grandson's initials JTHS were the same as his high school, Joliet Township High School. Is this post boring yet, or what?

I still believe Dorian Rose is a beautiful name. Did you have a baby name you didn't get to use?

Question of the Day: Deadliest Catch

Who is the hunkiest crab boat skipper? And which boat would you like to spend a week on? My vote for #1 hunk is Johnathan Hillstrand, followed a close second by his brother Andy. For my sea cruise, I would choose the Northwestern though. I love Sig's attitude and Edgar's sense of humor. Oh....and I'd eat crab for every meal!
